Why Must I Have a First Aid Kit?
Accidents happen in a blink of an eye where rescuers are not present. When calamities strike and you are stuck in a place, there’s no other person who can help you but yourself. During these incidents, fear engulfs you. Why? You don’t have anything that can aid even the minor injury. These unwanted situations can make you feel helpless and useless. But you can do something about it.
Be it in the office, while traveling and especially in your own homes, first aid kits should be present. Emergency preparedness during accidents helps prevent a major injury or loss to happen. Having a first aid kit will lessen the panic especially if the scenario needs an immediate attention like difficulty in breathing, cut wounds, burns and more.
First Aid Kits come in different shapes and sizes where it can be easily hand carried. First aid kits are more preferred than having a medicine cabinet. Kits are portable and can accommodate the basic stuffs.
Things that should be in your first aid kit:
- First Aid Manual
- Thermometer
- Sterile gloves
- Burn Ointment
- Antibiotic Ointment
- Adhesive bandages
- Soap and antibiotic towelettes
- Sterile dressings to stop bleeding
- Eye wash solution
- Prescription medications - asthma inhalers, insulin, heart medicine
- Prescribed medical supplies - blood pressure and glucose monitoring devices.
Check medicines periodically for their expiration dates.

- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant
- Flashlight
Non-prescription drugs:
- Laxative
- Aspirin or non-aspirin pain reliever
- Anti-diarrhea medication
- Antacid (for upset stomach)
The items mentioned above are a wise investment. These will not cost you a lot and it will be worth the buy. First aid manuals should be read and reviewed. This will prepare you more fully on how to use the materials available in your kit. You can do it as an activity with your family or friends. Children must also know the importance and use of having a first aid kit in their homes (and schools). You definitely must have your own first aid kit.
